Simon Brett was a wood engraver and also the author of books and articles on the subject. He mostly worked as an illustrator, making wood engraving prints for high-end and limited edition or fine press publishers.
He worked on many books for the Folio Society and one of his most ambitious works was 'Pericles, Prince of Tyre' for the Barbarian Press, illustrating Shakespeare's play through 98 images using 140 blocks.
When he had time to make prints outside of his book projects, he made some in a purely visual response to looking at the world, others in response to our troubled existence in it.
In 2013 he held a retrospective of his prints at Bankside Gallery showing his work in wood engravings spanning across 50 years.
