Antony Lee ARE

An ex-Illustrator turned printmaker, Antony’s practice is built on a foundation of drawing, doodling and the keeping of sketchbooks. A long-standing inspiration has been the 'human' face and Antony draws fantastical heads and figures with a lot of nature imagery such as flowers and animals. Interests in imagery from other cultures of masks, totemic objects and Folk Art also feed into his work. One of his main inspirations is Mexican and Central American artwork such as the Huichol Indian artworks and Mexican Day of the Dead imagery.

Antony has been specialising in screenprinting since 1997 and teaching it since 2001. He hand-cuts film stencils and uses photocopies or digital scans. He creates his vibrant and colourful prints using only 4 colours by utilising the transparency of the inks.

He is currently a Specialist Printmaking Technician at Camberwell College of Arts teaching screenprinting and lithography.

He studied Graphic Design at London College of Printing, then Illustration at Royal College of Art, and MA Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts.

Antony was awarded the Phil Shaw Award at our 2024 International Original Print Exhibition.
