The Society takes its role as advocate for the art of printmaking very seriously. By annually staging one completely open submission and a series of partially open submission exhibitions we are endeavouring to promote printmaking to an ever-wider audience and to encourage artists to create new work. The RE also organises a number of prizes for young printmakers and recent graduates. We encourage direct interaction with our artists through ‘meet the artists’ sessions at all of our exhibitions.
The Society plays host to various annual shows and events, among others:
RE Original Prints
This is a five-week long annual exhibition held in May/June showcasing current work by the Society’s members.
Off the Wall/ Mini Pictures
These are shows in the Summer and Winter that we share with The Royal Watercolour Society where the content constantly changes as the work is sold off the wall.
This is a compelling series of annual exhibitions focussing in turn on one of the many techniques practised by our members. The first of these, Relief Prints, was held from 3 - 15 November 2015 and the next, Etching, will be 1 - 13 November 2016. These feature some work by the members of the Society and some work from open submission so see also the separate page under ‘Artist’s Opportunities’.
National Original Print Exhibition
This is an annual open submission exhibition held in the last two weeks of September showcasing a diverse and exciting collection of works in contemporary printmaking. See the page under ‘Artist’s Opportunities’.
