My paintings and prints comment on the many contradictions of our society. It seems the world is filled with dreamers and chancers, and makers and fakers; our needs and desires seem to have been imposed upon us, they are in our DNA, making it almost impossible to escape the merry-go-round. While we try to grope around trying to make a meaning out of the unsettling comedy, life moves inevitably on.
I have been sketching, painting and making prints of our garden over very many years - the same or similar views over the seasons. I saw the growth and changes of the plants as they reached out for the sun, smothering rivals in their lust for light and energy. I made some woodcuts of the garden using DNA forms, fingerprinting, cell division etc to add colour to the work. Now, in these latest monoprints, plant structures at a microscopic level has worked itself into the images- perhaps influenced by abstracts I worked on in the 60s.http://www.gerrybaptist.co.uk/
